Pixar’s Luca
I’m just going to start off introducing the characters and environment from the movie before I begin to expound on why I love this new film that just released on Disney+.
Portorosso is the name; the city where this whole story takes place, besides the ocean which we’ll speak on later. Now, Portorosso does sound like a beautiful city in the country of Italy, but it’s actually not an actual city or a town I should say. Portorosso is based off of Cinque Terre in Liguria, Italy, where honestly, as a kid, I wish I could live there. The beauty within this town is remarkable; from the structure of the buildings, the closeness of the ocean and the small, different shops that surround the town.
This next location is where everything kind of starts in a way. Alberto, which you’ll know real soon, has this treehouse if you will, where he talks Luca( the main character) into exploring the town of Portorosso. Again, this Island is somewhere, that if I had good wifi for work and an Uber or boat close by to shop for groceries, I’d totally live there. This spot marks an important place in the film in where it ends with a smile and ends with a frown, as you’ll see in the movie. But take my advice as of now, and don’t jump off a treehouse into trees thinking it’ll save you.
Let’s begin this list of characters with none other than the man of the hour, Luca. Luca reminds me of myself a little bit; a 13 year old boy curious to see what’s out there in this other world, other than our own. A teenage boy in where everything our parents say, we tend to brush off and think we know it all; that’s Luca. But, make no mistake, this ragazzo (boy), loves adventure as well, and loves to learn new things from different worlds.
Next up we have Alberto. Alberto, in this film, is what I would say is a true friend at heart. Why is Alberto a true friend, you may ask? To not spoil more of the movie, I’ll just give you three nouns that describe this ragazzo: jealous, sacrificial, and thoughtful. Once you watch Luca, the film, you tend to comprehend, throughout the film, why Alberto is the way he is, and it goes to show how some of us grew up; without a… wait, too much right?
You didn’t actually think I was going to continue along with characters did you? There’s a lot of important characters in this movie, and I don’t want to spoil more of the movie for you guys. Overall, Luca is another Disney and Pixar classic that will forever be a gem in my eyes. From the animation, to the story, Luca checks off every box in my list. Will you watch Luca?
